It's Baking Week

It's National Baking Week and why would I need a better excuse to finally start a baking blog?

There has been a really great response to the recipes, cakes and other sweet treats featured on My Life in Knitwear and I have found myself being more strongly drawn to the food writing rather than the knitwear writing.  So, rather than takeover the knitwear blog with copious amounts of cake I thought it would be far simpler to move my other love here.

I'm a greedy and keen amateur baker with a fascination for cake but I don't discriminate against buns, biscuits, tarts, puddings, pastries and sweets.  My adventures in the kitchen are mainly restricted to baking however my other half, Mr K, is passionate about the more culinary goings on however I'm sure some of his creations will make it onto the pages here.  There will be a variety of recipes, reviews, tips and hints which I hope will inspire you to have a go at popping something in the oven.  It would be great to see and hear how your creations turn out and I will endeavour to answer any questions I can.

Baking is a science so my main tips are to weigh everything accurately, have ingredients at room temperature unless otherwise specified in the recipe, invest in an oven thermometer (this makes such a difference), use the freshest and best quality ingredients you can afford, and most of all don't be disheartened if a recipe doesn't work out, it happens to all of us at one point or another.

So put on your pinny, turn your oven up to eleven and get baking!
